Hashtag Means
Hashtag is represented by a pound/hash
sign which is symbol like ‘#’ placed before a word or a series of words on
social media networks. So this symbol and a word or series of words combined to
form a hashtag. By placing this symbol before any phrase or word to make it a
hashtag it converts the word into a metadata tag. We can say that it turns that
particular word immediately into a searchable form on the internet which can be
used on websites or social media networks like facebook, twitter, linkedin,
pinterest etc. This newly created hashtags could be activated by someone
clicking on that hashtags.
How does hashtag work?
When someone clicked on that hash
tag, the user can view a series of posts that are posted by you and other
people who are posting by using that particular hash tag. By hash tagging the words
we can engage a large number of peoples on the internet around the globe. It
has been experienced that hashtags are one of the most powerful marketing tools
or lobbying tools now days. A huge number of peoples in the world are using
internet with different time zones for different purposes. When they relate any
post to any particular word, phrase or series of words that is a hashtag, all
of their posts connected with that hashtag can been seen by any internet user
on a single page and it became very easy to filter their search results,
comments and answers of some questions which had been asked by placing pound
symbol to create them hashtags.
How to use hashtag?
For example, if we wanted to comment
on the Olympics 2017 on social media, we must know what are the hashtags on
that particular topic are being used by peoples and internet users to highlight
their posts on different social media networks or services. Then we could use
it in our posts. So our post would be something like these lines “Barazile may
be going to host #Olympics2017”. Anyone who clicks this tag “#Olympics2017” in
either my post or any other’s post could see a series of posts on his social
media channel that are making an open discussion on that platform.
We must notice some things by making
hash tags, that multiple words with number within #Olympics2017 had been concertinaed
together. If we don’t concatenate them the only first word of the phrase will
be our hashtag. Another thing we must take care of that is to capitalize the
first letter of phrase.
All the hash tags created on social
media are supported by almost all of the things like Facebook, Twitter, Google
Plus, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Instagram, Pinterest etc, but it is most commonly
associated with Twitter and is very familiar and easy to integrate with. Other then
Twitter users are using hashtags on other social platforms to emphasize a
topic, but this is technically meaningless because the metadata tag function didn’t
works on platforms other then Twitter. Some users get annoyed at their use,
deeming themselves unsightly, and especially when they are using a platform
that didn’t support the search functions. However facebook is going to update
their features for the use of hashtags on their own platform so the user feels
more convenient.
Hashtags are also used to crossover
to other media channels like Text and e-mail languages. The developers are
trying to integrate this search system with these media channels.
A famous hashtag is #Fail, which is
used to indicate in derogatory fashion a public event, statement or action.
Companies and brands have also created their tags and market their own hashtags
on the hope that people will use them on Social Media.
