Hashtags:

I have been receiving lot of questions from many of my friends and fellows through different sources. They are asking about hashtags, which is a term being used by internet users especially social media website (facebook, twitter, tumbler, instagram, pinterest) users. Many users are unaware about the true definition of hashtags. All of such people wanted to know about this terminology. They have many questions like, What is a hash tag? What is its definition? How it works? How to create a hashtag? etc.

Although a large number of internet users have know how about this but on the other side there is also a huge number of people who didn’t know about it and these users are two much confused in the use of hashtags because they don’t have clear concept in the use of tags in their posts on social media, specially while sharing pictures and videos.

What does hashtag mean? 

We have often seen our friends and fellows posting pictures using the things like #cool, #Summer, #Sunny,  #Day, #Feelings, #Happy etc. And most of our fellows didn’t know what these things in their posts are?

Hashtag is a label which can be a phrase or number written right after the symbol “#”. This symbol is called hash. You can insert this symbol by pressing the number 3 key with shift key from your keyboard. After inserting the hash symbol you can type any phrase or number to create hashtag. There are some things technically clear to all of you that hashtags should be a popular topic or the phrase should have some worth in its meanings. You can’t use space or special characters in hash tags.

It makes the users easier to find messages and comments having specific contents or theme. Users can write the hash tags either in the main text of the post message or at the end of his content area. When someone searches for that specific hashtags will then show all messages that have been tagged with it.

How does hashtag works and what are hashtags used for?

I would like to give some examples for understanding the true concept of hashtags. Let suppose we are discussing on any famous topic that is hot and on the headlines in news on every channel and newspapers and we want to post something which is related to that topic, then we post the content or pictures by writing a phrase of that topic and place the symbol “#” before the phrase and don’t enter any space in between symbol and phrase. This will join our post i.e pictures or videos with that phrase by making this phrase a hashtag.

For example #Imrankhan is a popular hashtag on social media. Imran khan is a famous personality of Pakistan. If we post any content which is related or concerned with this personality, we should use #imrankhan which is already popular on the internet and millions of posts are already tagged with it. So by doing this our post will be tagged with this hash tag. When any one search for this tag, will find all the post, messages, replies, comments etc on one place. So all the material tagged with this hashtag will be displayed in the same window. Now user can became capable to read all messages/comments from top to bottom and can know all about that particular topic.

Hashtag is became a powerful tool to establish a brand, to say your important voice in effective way and it can reach a large number of internet users in a very simple way. Users can easily sort and search their messages which are tagged to any particular topic and if the topic is any question then it is more convenient to collect the answers and select the right one. For example if I have asked a question that IPhone 5 is best or IPhone 6 and I requested that answers my please be giver with a hash tag as “#chtechtricks”. Now we suppose 500 people have replied with this tag and they all have different answers. When I search this tag on any social media website I will get all the replies on the same page and now I will become capable to view and sort all answers on that page. The interesting thing is that while replying, user can use this hashtag on any of the social media like facebook, twitter, pinterest, instagram, tumbler, google plus and so on.
